30 Years of the CMP
The Certified Meeting Planner (CMP) program celebrates 30 years in 2015—a well deserved celebration for the CIC. In 30 years, over 10,000 meeting professionals in 55 countries around the globe hold the CMP designation, a unique community representing every sector of the industry.
Goals for the celebration were simple; recognize current and former CMPs and encourage today's industry leaders and rising stars to take advantage of this valuable designation. The target audience, convention/meeting planning professionals, are busy individuals with heavy travel schedules who respond better to multiple participation opportunities. I agreed, reciting a lesson learned from a recent podcast "people don't notice announcements, they notice consistency."
To start early and extend the celebration through the year, CIC's team selected events from around the world to serve as mini-celebrations. All promotions and events would build anticipation for the closing celebration at the CMP Conclave in September 2015. The goal was to use the momentum from the 30th Birthday to fuel a 'baby boom' year for new CMPs in 2015-2016.
Project 1: Design a badge to add on to the current CMP logo. Pictured above, the final concept, and a selection of rough sketches created on a flight from Birmingham to SanFrancisco. Below, the final concept on black and white, and a smaller text-only variation.
Project 2: Design a set of Photo Booth props and signs for the 2015 IMEX Frankfurt Convention in Frankfurt, Germany. The goal was to encourage interaction and raise awareness for the CMP program and 30th Birthday Celebration.
To capitalize on the international presence at IMEX Frankfurt I designed a set of multilingual photo booth props.
Knowing that the target audience (meeting planners and convention industry professionals) are a fun-loving bunch, I incorporated interactive elements to the photo booth props, like hats, glasses, arrows, and badges. These fun, color blocked props boosted participation and increased traffic to the CIC booth, successfully raising awareness for the CMP program and 30th birthday celebrations.
